When processed as a pin based debit card, these transactions don't have as large of a discount fee or percentage rate charged to the merchant.  There is only a small transaction fee and a reduced network fee percentage.  This fee varies depending on the network parameters associated with a particular transaction.

Generally, transactions above $30.00 run with a pin based debit card will save you, the merchant, several cents per transaction.  The amount saved depends on the transaction size.  The larger the transaction is, the more you will save by running pin based debit transactions.
