Merchants’ Choice Payment Solutions is pleased to announce the MCPS PCI Protection Plan to assist your business in complying with payment card industry security standards and afford you indemnity protection up to $50,000 against claims resulting from breaches in data security. The PCI-DSS, Payment Card Industry-Data Security Standard (“PCI” or “PCI DSS”), is a collaboration of Visa, MasterCard, JCB, Discover, and American Express. The PCI data security standard is a complete set of guidelines intended to strengthen payment card acceptance systems against fraud.
With the inventions of modern conveniences such as the Internet, cell phones, and Voice over IP (VoIP), personal data has become even harder to encrypt and protect. Payments processed, regardless of method, may not be in compliance with the PCI DSS. MCPS is concerned about data security in relation to our merchants and their cardholding customers and as your merchant services provider, MCPS has initiated a plan to help you protect credit/debit cardholder data in both physical and technological aspects.
MCPS has teamed up with the industry’s best providers to help safeguard your sensitive cardholder data and provide you with indemnity coverage up to $50,000 through the MCPS Protection Plan.
All MCPS merchants will have immediate access to login to MCPS PCI website. Once logged in, merchants will need to immediately complete the online PCI DSS Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) and also every year thereafter.
Based on PCI DSS guidelines, some merchants will need to schedule a complete PCI scan of their communications and data storage processes. Up to 5 IP addresses (VOIP terminal, Internet each count as one IP) are included at no additional charge.
For those merchants who require PCI scans, they may need to be performed quarterly and are at no additional cost to the merchant (up to 5 IP addresses)
In the event of a security breach, fines may be assessed by the card associations to the merchant. In that event, a completed SAQ ensures indemnity coverage of up to $50,000 to pay monetary assessments, fees, fines or penalties levied against the merchant as a result of a data security breach, provided MCPS is notified within 60 days following the event. Damages shall not include security event expenses, post event service expenses, civil or criminal fines or penalties imposed by law, liquidated damages, or taxes.
